Man in his 60’s arrested with €129,700 worth of illegal drugs in Cork.

Another failing of the War on Drugs in Cork on Friday where multiple units of the gardai carried out a raid house in Knocknaheeney, Cork. A man in his late 60’s was arrested and held at Gurranabraher Garda Station where he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996 after the gardai seized €129,700 worth of cocaine, cannabis and cash at the house.

This house was located in a residential area where kids could of easily been sold or been used to sell these drugs. How long more will we continue with the failed prohibition of drugs?

€129,700 worth of cocaine, cannabis and cash following a search in Co. Cork on Friday.

Multiple units of the gardai were involved in the raid including Gurranabraher Drugs Unit, Serious Crime Unit and the Garda Dog Unit. Is this something the Irish state can continue to keep funding when the Irish tax payer is receiving no value for the money spent? While these drugs are off the street this seizure in reality does nothing to the availability of drugs in Cork.

The search uncovered €111,700 of cocaine and €18,000 of cannabis resin (pending analysis) alongside €1,200 in cash, which was also seized. These drugs will now be sent to forensic science Ireland , again at a cost to the Irish tax payers.

A man aged in his late 60s was arrested at the scene.

The man has since been charged and is scheduled to appear before Cork District Court on Monday 20th of September.
