Over half a million euro worth of cannabis seized in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan

A man in his 60’s is due in court today following the seizure of €580,000 of cannabis herb in Co Monaghan yesterday. The man was arrested at the scene & later charged. He appeared before a sitting of Monaghan District Court at 3.30pm today (Saturday April 9th). Details of the case are currently unavailable.

The Cannabis was discovered during a search operation in the Castleblayney area. The search was carried out as part of Operation Tara established to combat drug trafficking but at a cost of multiple millions to the tax payers.

“Following searches at the property, suspected cannabis herb was discovered sealed in a number of vacuum bags. The Cannabis seized is believed to have an estimated value of €580,000,” the Garda said in a statement.

Its a real pity that the Irish government didn’t legalise Cannabis for adult use many years ago when presented with the chance by the then TD (now MEP) Luke “Ming” Flannagan . If they had done so back then this Cannabis seized using the value given and a tax of 23% would’ve brought in over €133,000 and also created multiple jobs in the process.
