Strange warning issued by Durham police after thieves steal Cannabis plants from a licenced grow in Ashburn

Durham police are warning that several stolen cannabis plants in the Ashburn area could be fatal if ingested.

Warning issued by Durham police about potentially poisonous Cannabis stolen from licenced grow in Ashburn

The thefts happened Wednesday from a licensed grow operation. Police say they had been treated with a toxic chemical.

Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with police.

However many on social media believe the warning to be nothing more than an attempt to scare the thieves and any potential buyers they might have.

Others such as High on Home grown panel member and cannabis grower from Canada , Temple Grower, who believes it could possibly be “myclobutanil”. Myclobutanil is a fungicide used to prevent powdery mildew or in the case of Cannabis “bud rot”.

An educated response from highly experienced Cannabis grower and panel member of “High on Homegrown” Temple Grower

While Myclobutanil is registered for use on agricultural food crops when it is used on a crop such as cannabis or tobacco which are smoked via combustion it poses a serious risk to the consumer. When heated to temperatures in excess of 205oC (400of) it releases a toxic levels of hydrogen chloride, hydrogen cyanide, and nitrogen oxide. Despite the dangers, some growers continue to use myclobutanil or commercial products that contain the fungicide.

Results from a 2016 study done by Steep Hill Labs which found that over 66% of cannabis samples tested contained detectable levels of Mylcobutanil which would of failed quality tests in other states with more robust regulatiosn to protect consumers

This just highlights again why consumers of Cannabis deserve to be protected by regulating and controlling the production and supply of Cannabis. It also highlight why people should be allowed to grow their own cannabis so they have comfort in knowing how the plant was grown and what inputs were used.

Currently Cannabis consumers have no way of protecting themselves from these hidden dangers and we all have a right to be protected as humans and cannabis consumers.
